Memorial Day – A Replay

This is a re-post of a brief Memorial Day Post.

A homeless man (and former veteran) in Santa Barbara created this sand sculpture for Memorial Day weekend near Stearns Wharf. The detail was stunning up close…and it reminded me how grateful I am for those who serve in the military. Our society has done better at appreciating our troops than we used to…though I think we are losing our collective memory a bit and improving at rewriting our collective biography. Whether we know it or want to admit it…we have much defended by those who died on the battlefield and serve today. So, I say thank you to each who serves or has served in the military and thus served us all…and pray for peace that will make such sacrifice unnecessary in the years ahead.
