stream of consciousness

Here’s what’s on my mind this Friday morning:

  • Mom is home from the hospital. She got home just in time to celebrate her birthday. So far, she’s recovering nicely and barring any setback, she’ll be ready to return to her normal awesomeness soon. It was great spending some time with just me, my sister, mom and dad, on her birthday.
  • Mom said it’s a huge blessing to her that Tammy (my sister) and I are friends. It would be sad indeed to waste the treasure of family for any period of time–but that season of life when we can be friends because we want to–not because we have to.
  • We start a new message series on 1 Corinthians next Sunday at NVC. I’ve never preached through the entire book before, and I’m really looking forward to it.
  • I’m glad I didn’t watch the Grammys. I would have been upset–though I love music.
  • Marriage of any type isn’t a show piece or intended for shock value.
  • And Hollywood wonders why Christians think they aren’t friendly toward them?
  • By the way, when Hollywood does something like that, it loses its ability to cry foul when Christians do or say something that offends them.
  • Frankly, I’d prefer we took a common sense approach toward things like this and tried not to offend each other if it was possible to avoid in a “common sense” way.
  • I’d also like people to learn how to dialogue with each other when we’re offended instead of trying to ruin everyone that offends us.
  • I love coaching softball. I love the personalities of the kids and the game itself. I love watching someone get better over the course of a season.
  • I’m Head Coach for Olivia’s team and an Assistant Coach for Anna’s team. That means 4+ hours of practice time on certain nights. It’s a good thing I love the game 🙂
  • Good Luck Charlie, our daughters’ favorite TV show, just introduced a lesbian couple to the show. Thanks, Disney :/ We’re still waiting for that first Christian couple. Then again, I don’t expect Disney to do that. I do expect them to let parents teach their kids about these sorts of things–or be up front about their intentions so we can decide how to handle it. Don’t just slip it in there.
  • Is there a better show on network TV than The Blacklist? Holy cow, that’s a great show–though it is heavy and grizzly at times. It’s like a cross between Criminal Minds, Silence of the Lambs, and 24–with James Spader.
  • National Signing Day for college football is coming. Damien Mama and Juju Smith are on my wish list for the Trojans–and we are the front-runners it would appear. Do you have a particular recruit your favorite team is aiming for?
  • I LOVE SOUP! I could eat soup for all three meals and be a happy guy. I love pretty much every soup except those that involve broccoli or lots of veggie chunks…nasty. On the whole the top 3 for me are probably Tomato Basil (like a bisque), French Onion (with lots of cheese and an excellent croton) and a great Clam Chowder.
  • Buster Olney has picked the Padres as a wildcard for this coming season. Booyah.
  • Now that Nozbe integrates Evernote reminders–it’s unstoppable as a productivity app.
  • College football players want to unionize. Nah.
  • Super Bowl prediction: Denver 23-16.
